Here are some facts about endometriosis in Nigeria:
- With 196 million inhabitants, where 49.4% of its population are women, between 30% – 40% of women in Nigeria live with Endometriosis.
- 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in Nigeria suffer from endometriosis
- 25% of women within the productive ages could be living with the condition without any form of symptom, hence could be a victim of infertility.
- Only about 20% of the entire population have ever heard about Endometriosis and only a third of the above populace feel their treatment is effective
- 10% of women within reproductive age (13-45 years) have endometriosis
- 10% of women worldwide have endometriosis – that’s 176 million worldwide
- The prevalence of endometriosis in women with infertility be as high as to 30–50%
- Endometriosis is the second most common gynaecological condition in Africa
- Endometriosis affects 1.5 million women, a similar number of women affected by diabetes
